What does one do on a off grid homestead on a daily basis? Well, remember when I always say I think out side the box? Well, that applies to my daily life here with my husband. I like not having a plan. My husband on the other hand is probably more of a planner then me. But I live how I cook. A little of this a little of that, and no measurements!
So this week I did lots of things! I enjoy mixing my projects up and staying positive and stress free. And I really enjoy trying new things and being creative on my homestead. I think this type of mentality helps a person get far in life.
During the week I usually WING it. Since our back to Eden garden is still in high production keeping up with my canning projects still has been a priority. I NEVER ever get tired of canning. It is such a simple chore that I cannot believe not more people partake! I look at all the produce we get be it vegetable or fruit and I say to myself "What can I do with this to preserve?" And then the mind start ticking like a bomb!!! I come up with lots of recipes in my head! Often I get a little A.D.D. going since I have way to many that can all fit in there!
So this week it was more salsa, then I did apple butter (that happened as I was biking by hoards of apple trees and decided to GO back with my truck and pick some!! Haha, good to live in a area where there is alot of FREE fruit! Then I did more pinto and black beans! WHY? Because my pantry is a living breathing pantry. IT IS NOT just a pantry for long term storage! We usewhats in there daily!!!
Then I almost forgot the peaches! Yes the peaches I actually purchased from our local bulk group! Every now and then I will indeed spend the money if its worth it on fruit! We love peaches and have peach trees but no fruit yet! BUT we have a local resource that has bulk local peaches 25lbs for fifteen dollars! NOW thats a deal. so of course I canned the peaches and made jam.
As the week went on I got the bug to make some feta, which turned out awesome (video of course to come) and I did some household fun projects like built some more trellis while somehow BENDING the tip of the drill bit when my husband told me..warned me..to not break anything!
Somehow, I end up ruining alot of things on the homestead. In fact after that fiasco I accidentally left both of my you tube cameras out in the pouring rain! Opps. So they are now ruined. And I spilled milk ..RAW milk on my computer keyboard! Yes, so as I type I have some hillbilly keyboard plugged into my laptop! This happens alot you know. I have a behind the scene life no one is aware of !!
Ok so I do some "fruit loop stuff". It happens.
But I also do alot of fun things off the homestead. And I do make it a priority to go out and explore either with my road biking or paddling or trail running. I love adventure and often don't think to much either about being smart when I do those things either. But heck, sometimes in life you gotta just wing it!
Last week I crashed my bike and sustained a concussion. Yep, Starry scrambled the brains like a egg. But my head must be hard for the next day I was out biking. No more trying to video though while biking. BAD MOVE!
Then we also did some stand preparation for hunting. I love being out in the woods at this time and tagging along with my husband as we scout for deer and put up bow-hunting stands is a fun activity for me!!
So all of this ANDDDDD answering comments on you tube and making more videos! I swear I need ten of me..HOWEVER Mr Hilder would most likely DISAGREE with that!
So that's some of the daily life stuff I do..besides cooking for my man, feeding my dogs (they dont eat dog food so yes I cook for them to) doing laundry, keeping the house clean, ect ect ect. And the ect is also loaded. Do I ever get tired? Well, lets just say I sleep good. My husband thinks I do to much and often will watch me run around . He laughs alot at me!
But I enjoy life and always always start my day with Praise and WORSHIP! And as the day goes on I share everything I do with GOD! HE is the only reason I can GET thru a day! And the reason for all of my joy!! Often people make a funny face at me when I say that. BUT when I crashed my bike..I rolled over , and moaned for my Lord. When the milk spilled on my computer I asked the Lord for patience. When I explored with my husband I again asked the Lord for patience (HA HA now that was a joke).....BUT God does fill my entire day! He has to! And hopefully HE FILL'S YOURS!!
